Microsoft Tech Ed 2005…
Was very lucky to have chance to attend the Microsoft Tech Ed (or Tech Ad? hehe) 2005 in Singapore this year.
It was a three days event held at Suntec on last Wednesday to Friday (24/08 - 26/08).
The whole event was seperated to few different tracks, ie Security, Infrastructure Upgrades, Management & Operations, Data Services (Microsoft SQL) and Information Management (Microsoft Exchange Server). Every class is around an hour and the attendants are free to move around among different tracks as they like.
I was focusing on the Security track and get to know lots of things regarding Security on the whole. And they dont only focus on security on Microsoft product. Security is talking about usability and availability and to let people access what they are supposed to access and nothing more. It shouldnt be just focus on a single product or a single layer, it should be look into together with operation, business process at the whole.
And they also talk about how Windows Vista is going to implement the security… and hopefully nobody needs to have Local Administrator rights, that would ease lots of headache for us the administrators…
The best speaker thru out the event (for security) is no doubt Steve Riley and Jesper Johansson. And yes, they maintain a blog as well…. Steve’s blog is here and Jesper’s is here… And lots of Steve’s persentation is available for download at his original site, you can take a look if you are interested on security… Steve is the kind of speaker that inspired you to think more…. and not just apply blindly what u read/heard. And he always use stories/pictures to illustrate his point… Therefore the whole presentation is so damn lively. And the last lecture on "Debunking Security Myths" was so packed that tons of ppl cant get seat but standing behind the theatre to just listen to his/Jesper’s talk…
Another good read from Steve Riley… Trustworthy Administrator posted on Microsoft web site. And it certainly rings a bell for me…
The first time I didnt fall asleep much during three days seminars except for one of the sessions… and huh, it is not a security session but one of the Windows Vista preview thingy
Good work for all the speakers… I, for one enjoy the whole event a lot…
